The journey from a "bright idea" to a market-disrupting enterprise is rarely a straight line. For ECFX, a legal technology powerhouse co-founded by Pepperdine alumni Dan O’Day (JD/MBA '93) and Nelson Quintero (JD '92), that journey has been paved with purpose, innovation, and a deep-rooted partnership with the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School.

What began as a recognized venture at the 2020 Most Fundable Companies (MFC) showcase has blossomed into a multi-year collaboration that exemplifies the spirit of innovation and partnership within the Graziadio community.

The Spark: A Most Fundable Foundation

In 2020, ECFX stood out in a competitive field to be named a Pepperdine Most Fundable Companies winner. This recognition went beyond an award; it affirmed ECFX's mission to solve one of the legal industry’s most persistent challenges: the overwhelming volume of electronic court filing (ECF) notices.

Today, ECFX has scaled that initial vision into a thriving firm of 28 employees. Their flagship product, ECFX Notice, is an enterprise management system that automates manual processing in mere seconds, drastically reducing risk and reclaiming thousands of billable hours for law firms nationwide.

The Evolution: Education to Business (E2B™) in Action

While many startups move on after their initial success, ECFX leaned back into the Pepperdine ecosystem. Through the Education to Business (E2B™) program, ECFX has turned the classroom into a laboratory for growth.

  • Strategic Marketing (2021): Working with Dr. Steve Rapier’s Online MBA students, ECFX received a comprehensive three-year marketing roadmap that helped catalyze their expansion into the law firm market.
  • Organizational Culture (2026): This spring, the partnership evolves further. ECFX has been selected as a live case study for Dr. Jennifer Franczak’s Full-Time MBA students. Using the OCAI framework, students will assess ECFX's corporate culture to ensure that, as the company grows, its employee engagement and leadership remain its strongest assets.

A Blueprint for Alumni Success

The story of ECFX is more than a business success story; it is a blueprint for how the Pepperdine community supports its own ventures. By bridging the gap between alumni-led companies and current student talent, Graziadio creates a feedback loop of innovation.

ECFX exemplifies how Pepperdine's E2B and Most Fundable Companies foster lasting relationships that drive innovation, growth, and purpose-driven leadership among alumni-founded ventures.
